The Michael Palin Stammering Centre

So I got to see the joys of Socialized Medicine firsthand when I turned in my paperwork at the NHS Centre near me.

First of all - of course - at the exact same time like three other people walked in right in front of me.

Then we had to wait in line. It took about 10 minutes for someone to show up.

But she was nice enough and helped me with my paperwork. On the "RACE" section, I had "ticked" the box that says "White European", figuring I was pretty close. Just to make sure, I also checked (I mean TICKED goddammit) the Italian and Irish boxes. The lady behind the counter looked at me and asked if I was American.

"Fuck yeah, what's it to you?!!!" (which wasn't what I said, but I was thinking it)

"Then you're not White European or Italian or Irish". She crossed out all my TICK boxes and wrote in "AMERICAN" in the RACE field.

So we're our own race, apparently.

Then, I noticed that the NHS Center (CENTRE!!!!) there was also the home of the Michael Palin Stammering Centre.

Here's a little clip of Mr. Palin from the movie "A Fish Called Wanda" where his character suffers from a little bit of a stammer. Michael said he modeled the character after his father, who had a bad stammer his whole life.
